New Orleans, LA – February 20, 3:00 pm
The Krewe’s fund drive to help Al “Carnival Time” Johnson acquire a home in the Musicians’ Village to replace the home he lost in the lower 9th Ward, when it was destroyed by the Hurricane KATRINA flood, is OFF & RUNNING!!
The ‘Krewe’ has presented a substantial commitment check for $10,000.00 to “Carnival Time” to kick off the fund drive and begin fund raising events in New Orleans, and elsewhere.

The Arabi Wrecking Krewe is a 501(3)C not-for-profit organization registered in the State of Louisiana dedicated to preserving the music & culture of New Orleans. Originally created to help many musicians clean and gut their flooded homes, the Krewe has now expanded its outreach to assist musicians with a variety of post-Katrina issues in order to help them in their efforts to return to New Orleans. The Krewe has initiated their fund drive in order to assist Al “Carnival Time” Johnson acquire a new home in New Orleans, so that he can permanently return home from Houston, where he has lived since his lower 9th Ward home was destroyed.

Al Johnson WROTE AND PERFORMED one of New Orleans’ most beloved anthems, “Carnival Time”. Almost 70 years old, Al only recently (after 30 or so years) began earning royalties on his classic hit. Katrina obliterated his small home in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward. Nothing is left except the number painted on the curb. Without musicians such as Al, New Orleans can never be the same. He represents the lifeblood of the city’s soul. He and his peers are the anchors of the city’s musical heritage; the youth need teachers and musical role models. “Al Johnson IS New Orleans
